Hindlow Quarry

Various surveys were carried out to support the ongoing operation of Hindlow Quarry and the application for their Review of Old Mineral Permission (ROMP). The work carried out on the site included general habitat surveys and more specific surveys covering badgers and bats. Following the surveys Steven prepared reports and documentation, including an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) to support the ROMP application.

The habitat surveys commenced with a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) covering the entire quarry site. The survey identified the species specific surveys required and provided the ecological baseline for the EcIA.

Badger surveys of the site were carried out to identify the badger setts present and to identify how the badgers utilise the quarry land and the location of any territorial boundaries. The survey findings went on to support the construction of an artificial badger sett on the site and the subsequent exclusion of several badger setts to allow the quarry operations to proceed.

Bat surveys of the site were carried out to assess the value of the site to bats and identify potential roost locations. Following the initial surveys further surveys of the quarry faces were carried out, including static monitoring and thermal surveys, to identify whether bats roost in the quarry faces.
